It’s Not About You or Me

“If you’ve gotten anything at all out of following Christ, if his love has made any difference in your life, if being in a community of the Spirit means anything to you, if you have a heart, if you care —then do me a favor: Agree with each other, love each other, be deep-spirited friends. Don’t push your way to the front; don’t sweet-talk your way to the top. Put yourself aside, and help others get ahead. Don’t be obsessed with getting your own advantage. Forget yourselves long enough to lend a helping hand.”
Forget yourselves long enough to lend a helping hand. This is powerful. I want to shout this out to my own soul. Robbie, it’s not about you. It’s not about how many people you can make smile. It’s not about how many people you can encourage. Its not about how many lessons you lead. It’s not about Robbie. It’s about making a difference for Him. Everything I do. Everything I say. Every talk with the boys. Every leadership post on social media. Every youth group sermon. Every leadership meeting with my teams. Every time I’m in the hospital with the medical staff for my kids. All of it. I have to put Robbie down to lift Jesus up. I am still working on it.
To often we make it about ourselves. But if we are Christians, then we are called to be Christ like. Christ could have had anything He wanted, but instead He served relentlessly. There had to be times when He was tired and frustrated and scared, but He still put people first.
What can you do today to encourage somebody? What can you do to truly make a difference in their lives? This is the definition of speaking life! We have a world that is hurting more than ever. It’s time that each of us becomes the church in Acts and truly make a difference. It’s not about us, it’s about Him.
