Take the time with your kids. I had a day off from work today. There was a part of me that just wanted to have a “me” day. Watch a John Wick movie on tv, eat wings, and play Madden before I preached to the youth tonight.
That lasted for 60 seconds max. Instead I decided to do some Kingdom stuff instead. Spent time in the Word and wrote out the blog (see previous post!). Then I went to have lunches with the boys. The secretary at school was so surprised that I showed up twice, and brought two meals from different restaurants. Their lunches are a hour a part and that’s ok.
I noticed something both times. When I arrived and walked into the cafeteria, they both were visibly suprised. They both stood up straight and declared to their classes, “this is my dad!”. They were so proud and excited. Their buddies were so excited as well. At the tables I spent 80% of the time reminding them how special they are to me. The remaining 20% of the time was spent discussing man things that revolved around gas, nfl, cars, and armpits. Gotta love elementary conversations!
Twenty years from now they probably will not remember today. But that’s ok. I’m making daily investments in them, in the hopes they will do the same for their boys. Dads need to have conversations about God, how special their kids are, and yes the importance of wearing Old Spice deodorant!
Legacy starts with you taking the time with your kids!
