Something really cool happened in the hospital tonight. It actually started this afternoon. I received a text from a friend and an amazon package that started everything in motion for tonight.
First the amazon package. I ordered it the day we found out Josiah was to be admitted. It had decorations in it for Josiah’s room. One was a giant poster. I asked his brother to create a message on it today before we were to go to the hospital. Levi caught the vision and went after it. He spent a hour writing and drawing. He was very proud of it! The first thing I did when I got to the hospital was to hang it above Josiah’s bed. Levi’s work made Josiah smile so big! I got to talk to Levi about the power of speaking life as well.
The text message. It was simple: Does J man need a pizza for dinner??? I responded that it would be cool. The next thing I got was a text confirmation that money for pizza was in my bank account. This was awesome because we can’t leave and only one person with Josiah is allowed in the room due to the pandemic outside. I was able to share with Josiah about our friend speaking life!
The story could stop there but instead God kept the blessings going! The nurses stopped and read every word that Levi wrote to Josiah. I swear I could see her smile through her mask! Then 2hrs later we were eating pizza and got full fast. I looked at Josiah and told him we should give the rest to our nurse. I explained it was given to us and if we give it as well then that’s a blessing for our friend, for us , and for the nurse! Simple spiritual math! Our nurse did not hesitate and thanked me. I let her know a friend got it for us. God knew we would want some outside food and that the nurse needed dinner. The nurse thanked us and told me how their staff were so happy when they heard the Bridges would be admitted to their floor.
As soon as she left I talked to Josiah about it. We had a cool conversation about speaking life and how important it is to pay it forward. I challenged him: see how he could bless the nurses starting tomorrow, regardless of how he is feeling. I am praying that Josiah will understand legacy through all of this.
Every little thing you do has a drastic effect. Taking a marker to write “I love you” and offering pizza through a text seems small, but those things are foundations for God to move.
God, may we truly take the time to encourage, inspire, and show people who You are…without even preaching. Let us be your hands and feet.
