How many times have you told yourself this past month, “I can’t wait till this gets back to normal”.
Wait. Two months ago how many times did you tell yourself, “God I need a change”?
Uhm…well if that’s you, you are not alone! We’ve been praying for something big to happen in our lives. We needed a break, a change, a new normal. We needed more time with our kids and significant others. We wanted to read more. We wanted new opportunities.
Folks, we have that new normal. Everything has changed. It’s scary outside though. Lives have been lost. Jobs have been lost. Stores are closed and supplies are gone. Unfortunately some people’s faith has been lost as well.
Israel dealt with a scary new normal as well. For 400+ years they were slaves praying for a change. The change finally came and they were released from captivity but on their journey out they became hunted by their enemy physically, spiritually, and emotionally. The Egyptian army was chasing them and wanted them dead. In front of them there was death in the form of an impassible sea. Behind them, death in the form of a raging army of chariots and anger. Can you imagine the fear they had? Finally the change came they were praying for…but not this! Death and uncertainty, everywhere they looked. God where are you? Moses…you said God had plan….is this His plan?
It got real.
“As Pharaoh approached, the Israelites looked up and saw them—Egyptians! Coming at them! They were totally afraid. They cried out in terror to GOD. They told Moses, “Weren’t the cemeteries large enough in Egypt so that you had to take us out here in the wilderness to die? What have you done to us, taking us out of Egypt? Back in Egypt didn’t we tell you this would happen? Didn’t we tell you, ‘Leave us alone here in Egypt—we’re better off as slaves in Egypt than as corpses in the wilderness.’””
They asked God for a change. We asked God for a change. They were scared. We are scared. They faced a strong enemy. We are facing a strong enemy. They questioned. We are questioning.
But then Moses spoke to them about God. He reminded them truth and gave encouragement.
“Moses spoke to the people: “Don’t be afraid. Stand firm and watch GOD do his work of salvation for you today. Take a good look at the Egyptians today for you’re never going to see them again. GOD will fight the battle for you. And you? You keep your mouths shut!””
Moses’ message to the Israelites is relatable today! Stand firm and watch God do his work of salvation for you today. Right now we are facing the enemy in front of us and the enemy behind us. Change is coming!
