Getting It

18 But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and forever! Amen. 2 Peter 3:18

I want this! I want to know His grace and knowledge. As a theology major and pastor, I absolutely love church history and Hermeneutics. When I see a verse I want to know who the author was, why did they write the letter, who was it addressed to, what was culture like, political climate, and the time period. That peaks my interest and helps me to fully read it.

There’s a difference though on reading it and getting it. I can do all the research in the world but if I just read it then I am missing out on “getting it”. That would be like making cookies but leaving out the sugar.

When I say “getting it” that means letting it settle deep in my spirit. It means taking the head knowledge and putting it in my soul. It means applying it to the sores and bruises of my faith. Basically, I want the sugar in the cookie!

So this verse is speaking directly to me about the grace of God. I have a high standard internally and I fall short more than once daily in my faith, so I need to apply this grace to my life! It’s ok to go to my Daddy and say I messed up and hit the reset button. I hate doing it because I want to make Him proud…but then that becomes a pride issue as well. Do you know how life changing it would be if I applied this one verse in every aspect of my life? That is “getting it”!

What does “getting it” mean to you?
