Pursuing Their Dreams
Annie and I worked on a sentence that summed up what Hacer210 is all about:
“Equipping people to pursue their dreams”
Poverty, trauma, and crisis are dream killers. Hacer210 exists to point people towards their dreams and to connect them with the support they need to accomplish those dreams.
We all have dreams. Can you imagine if someone stepped into your life and encouraged you to act on your dreams? Not only act, but they help you accomplish them. That would be monumental! It would change the trajectory and legacy in their life, and their families!
Examples:
A teen wants to get into an university. They have dreamed about it since they were a kid, to live the American dream. But their parents never went and they feel pressure to just find something after graduation because that dream is “unattainable” according to their circles of influences. Well, it’s not! That’s where we would come in and educate on applications, scholarships, grants, fafsa, and even campus tours. We would get them in the trenches and they would get to an university with a degree on the wall in four years.
Some adults dream about a new career. A career that matches who they are as a person and not just a paycheck. They feel hopeless because interviews did not go well in the past. They do not own a new suit. They are scared. They are stressed and feeling the pressure from a scary economic future. That’s where we come in to help with resume writing, interview techniques, and ways to dress to impress. We would network with search firms and help to show them how to build their brand.
Some parents are facing terminal illnesses or other extreme situations in the NICU and PICU. Their dreams of leaving the hospital seem so distant. They feel alone. Isolated with nothing but the beeps from one of the machines. Their dreams of jubilee morphed to insomniac dispare. That’s where we come in. We work with them to help with next steps living out of a suitcase in the hospital. We get help with child life. We get people involved that know how to work with insurances and grants. We introduce counselors to help stand in the gap.
It can also be someone that has always dreamed of gardening. To learn how to plant and not kill everything in a week. What a powerful thing to grow what you eat or to be able to plant flowers to spruce up the front yard. We can show them best practices and ways to have their plants thrive. We can give them pride in who they are and nurture the dream of them being providers.
The list can and does go on and on. Every person has a dream. San Antonio has a lot of people, and that’s a lot of dreams. Poverty, crisis, and trauma are dream killers. Unfortunately that adds up to a lot of dead dreams which then moves into hopelessness. Notice I said the word “we” in all of the examples. WE can make a difference. WE have been called to do this. When you help someone fulfill their dream, and even awake dreams they didn’t know that was buried under a pile of rubble from poverty, crisis, or traumas…that changes their legacy. Legacy isn’t just for one generation, it’s past down to the next.
Are you ready to change legacies in this community? Are you ready to help people dream? They need you. We need you. Let’s turn it around today!
