Fight or Flight

“For God did not give us a spirit of timidity or cowardice or fear, but [He has given us a spirit] of power and of love and of sound judgment and personal discipline [abilities that result in a calm, well-balanced mind and self-control].”

2 Timothy 1:7 AMP

I am reminding myself of this verse today. It’s very real right now. One minute you hear great news then the next it’s more devistation. I went to HEB (grocery store) this afternoon and there was a ton of people standing in the rain. Everyone was close and not practicing the social distancing. I really wish people would understand why it’s so important. None the less, we were there because we were all fearful of the unknown. Due to the crowd, I decided to drive off and come up with a plan B.

Yesterday I was listening to Hope City‘s latest Podcast and the Pastor made an illustration about fear. He used David vs. Goliath as the example. Goliath was huge. He had a big weapon, impenetrable armor, and made the people of Israel tremble. David was this tiny shepherd boy, especially in front of Goliath. Even though Goliath was big, the God that lived inside of David was bigger! David knew that and faced the “smaller” giant.

This virus, food shortages, work shortages, all of it….it’s scary. I mean, really scary. But…God is bigger than all of the scariest what if scenarios.

David had two options. Live in fear and let Goliath continue to make his nation tremble on what he could do them. Or David could rely on what God had promised Him and face Goliath head on.

What will we do when facing our fears tomorrow? Who is bigger…the virus or God in our lives? Be smart, be safe, and remember God is bigger.
