I Am Waiting

I’ve got vivid memories of my Grandaddy farming his fields. I remember riding the tractor with him when he would plant the seeds. His tractors would make a row and plant a seed, day in and day out. Weeks later we would be in his old Ford and driving 10mph as he would drive by his fields looking out at the sprouting crop. Then it was fertilizer time. We would get in the tractor for days and spray the fields. There would be prayer for rain some weeks, and prayer for a dry spell the next. It seemed like months later, but finally the harvest was ready. My favorite was the corn harvest because it was fun riding and sleeping in the combine tractor as he would pick the corn. It also meant fresh corn on the cobb for a lot of dinners! It was a long process from beginning to end and it always amazed me how one seed grew into a tall plant, producing hundreds of other seeds. I remember asking Grandaddy why it took so long and he would remind me that it took time to grow and a lot of patience.

I feel like we are waiting today. We are waiting for the cure for Covid pandemic. We are waiting for racism to end. We are waiting for political rest. We are waiting for jobs. We are waiting for it be normal like it was in February.

God, I’m not good at waiting. I love my microwave. I want things instant. I want my food to be cooked in 2min. I want to fast forward past the commercials. I want blessings now. I want to be healed right now. I want my kids to be healed right now. I want the community center to open today. I want….

But then God says in His Word:

“Meanwhile, friends, wait patiently for the Master’s Arrival. You see farmers do this all the time, waiting for their valuable crops to mature, patiently letting the rain do its slow but sure work. Be patient like that. Stay steady and strong. The Master could arrive at any time.”

James 5:7-8 MSG

While I’m asking for everything now, God is saying to wait. I need to trust that He is working in ways I cannot see. Just like my granddaddy seeds’ were growing beneath the ground, God is working things out for us at this ver instant. He hasn’t forgotten us and He hears our cries.

Friends, we need to be in constant prayer and to wait patiently. While we wait, ask Him to reveal to you His heart in the waiting.
