A Million Dreams
I still remember three years ago my wife and I went to see “The Greatest Showman”. It was a game changer in our ministry and marriage. We held hands and I cried the entire time and I left so inspired. I felt like I was watching myself on the big screen. These lyrics:
“They can say, they can say it all sounds crazy
They can say, they can say I’ve lost my mind
I don’t care, I don’t care, so call me crazy
We can live in a world that we design
Every night I lie in bed
The brightest colors fill my head
A million dreams are keeping me awake
I think of what the world could be
A vision of the one I see
A million dreams is all it’s gonna take
A million dreams for the world we’re gonna make”
So many times at night I can’t sleep because of my dreams. It started when I was 16. When God told me that I am to go into youth ministry my junior year of high school, He gave me a quote: Dare to dream, Live the Vision. I asked Him what that meant and He said to dream big. Don’t settle for the average…dare to dream bigger than that. Live the vision, is based on the fact we have to live out these big dreams that God gives us. Every night I remind the kids to “dare to dream” and they reply “live the vision”. It’s important to me they dream big too!
Not everyone will get your dreams. I know I was called crazy more than once when I described my ministry dreams as a full time pastor. Today I get called crazy by some because I lead a youth outreach. Ha, and I do things different as a call center manager as well. But that’s ok, because if my dreams are inspired by God, He is the one that matters!
There are two other parts of this song that hits home and makes me a blessed husband and dad. In the song & movie his wife sings, “However big, however small
Let me be part of it all
Share your dreams with me
You may be right, you may be wrong
But say that you’ll bring me along
To the world you see
To the world I close my eyes to see
I close my eyes to see”.
I squeezed Annie’s hand so tight with that in the theater. She has always wanted to be a part of my dreams and making them our dreams. She is the Proverbs 31 wife that DcTalk rapped about years ago. And I do the same with her dreams as well. Teamwork.
The other part are the kids singing with their dad. You know by now that my kids are everything to me. In the movie, they got their dads dream. It became their dream as well. My kids have done the same. They have helped me write sermons for reYouth and talked about how they can led a prayer before I preach. During this pandemic they get in the car and help us pass food to the youth group. Now they are giving me ideas of how they can help HACER210 with marketing strategy’s!
To sum it up: Dare to dream and live the vision. Ask God if you are dreaming big enough. Ask your significant other to dream with you and vice versa. Get your kids to dream with you and dive into their dreams too! Don’t be scared if it sounds crazy!
