Hold on Son!

Did you try it? Where you scared to do it? Did you venture into the unknown to accomplish it?

My son Levi did! We were driving home a week or so ago from a family activity and we talked about the rodeo that’s coming to San Antonio. We asked him if he would like to go. His response was a YES! Then he asked if he could be in it. Say what?!

I giggled and reminded him he was 5yrs old and he would need training to be a bull rider. Then my wife remembered the “Mutton Bustin” competition. He wanted to do that, no questions asked! So we got him registered, got a complete cowboy outfit set and he was ready to go!

We went last night and he was so pumped. He never mentioned being nervous or scared. We talked about wrapping his legs and arms around the sheep and to hang on for dear life when the sheep takes off! He was the first one to have his names called and to get in the platform. The crowd cheered, me included! He gave us a big smile and hunkered down into position.

The horn blew and out went the sheep with Levi gripping it with everything he had. He did a fantastic job! When the sheep turned, it sent him sideways and eventually flipped him. He got up from the fall…dancing! He scored 87 points and finished 4th place! This daddy was filled with nothing but pride! I was so excited to see him succeed and have fun. I was even more excited with the lesson to try new things.

It made me think…when is the last time I said yes to a challenge and went after it 100%? This blog is a great example for me. I had some close friends tell me I should write out my thoughts since I wrote so much during my kids hospital stays. I wondered who would read it and then decided, why not?! Since then it has encouraged people and sparked some great conversations about faith, hope, and parenthood. This blog is my sheep for this season and I’m holding on for dear life!

So here’s my challenge to you. What’s your sheep for today? Are you ready to strap in, and take hold of it…even if it flips you? Will you get up dancing ready for the next sheep? Levi did! Ride on son, ride on!
