Raking Leaves And Sin
On Christmas Eve I raked up the back yard that was covered in leaves. It was driving me nuts and I wanted the grass to survive this winter. Levi had a blast “helping” me by jumping in the pile while I took the blower to make the pile bigger.
I have to admit, raking and blowing leaves gives me a sense of peace. I think of being a kid playing in our woods of North Carolina. The leaves in my backyard now are so much smaller then raking leaves in the woods back home!
While raking I was thinking about my next lesson and it dawned on me…the leaves! No one will ever get the blower, rake, or trash bags for a single leaf. Instead it takes an entire tree of fallen leaves to get us outside to clean up. Plus the sun has to be shining or at least no rain. It has to be ok conditions.
How often do we allow a “little” sin (a leaf) to take hold in our lives (yard) before dealing with it. It’s just a little lie. Nobody will ever know, etc. That little sin is no biggie (we lie to ourselves so much!), then it becomes larger. The next thing you know, you are sitting in a yard full of leaves…a spirit full of sin that leaves you hurting, embarrassed, and feeling far from God.
The good news is we have Christ that will forgive our sins when we lay them down before Him. He will take all of our leaves from the yard (keeping with the illustration). This should be a daily prayer and constant conversation. Don’t let your life get covered in sin and leaves. Let Christ take the rake and blower out today. The difference is, He wants that single leaf as opposed to us waiting till everything piles up high.
Let him clean your yard today!
